Last Thursday I had an amazing opportunity to judge at the event "Ready…Set…Target Style" in Miami. Let me tell first what it was: as simple as a style competition. Three local stylist (and bloggers) were asked to create looks using the Target fall collection…a mix of Top Chef and Project Runway! But besides the fun competition, there was also a photo booth, a beauty bar with complimentary makeup tips and touchup, and a DJ.

El jueves pasado tuve una oportunidad increíble de ser una de las jueces en el evento "Ready….Set…Target Style" en Miami. Les voy a contar de que se trataba primero: básicamente una competencia en donde 3 estilistas y bloggers compitieron creando looks usando la colección de otoño de Target. También hubo un photobooth, maquillaje, DJ, jugos, etc.
This was the stage: all the clothes from the Target Fall collection was in the back, the judges were on the left side, and there were chairs for the audience.

Let's move on to the judges…it was three of us: Rodner Figueroa (TV host from Univision), Vashtie Kola (NYC based Director, DJ, and Artist, and me! :) The hosts for the event were Zanna Rassie (Maria Claire Fashion Editor, and E! News Correspondent), and Courtney Kornegay. BTW Zanna is such a sweetheart…I was really excited to meet her!

Eramos 3 jueces: Rodner Figueroa, Vashtie Kola, y está que acá :). Probablemente muchas conocen a Rodner, él tiene un programa en Univision llamado "Sal y Pimienta"; y Vashtie es DJ, directora, y artista. Los animadores eran: Zanna Rassie (editora de Marie Claire, y corresponsal en E! News), y Courtney Korneygay.
Here I am with the three local stylist (and bloggers!); I have to admit I was a little nervous when judging them…we are not only all bloggers, but I also consider them friends (and it's always hard to critique friends). They all did a fantastic job…can you believe they only had 3 minutes to pull clothing and then three other minutes to dress their muses?

Aquí estoy con las 3 bloggers que participaron en los retos. Tengo que admitir que estaba un poco nerviosa…a las 3 no solo las conozco, sino que las admiro y quiero mucho (y obviamente es difícil criticar a tus amigas). ¿Pueden creer que solo tuvieron 3 minutos para escoger la ropa y luego 3 minutos para vestir a sus modelos/musas? ¡Admirable!
All the challenges were based around the infamous "
white shirt" and its versatility. The first challenge was to create an outfit that worked from the office to date night. The clear winner was Maria and her muse Martha (from Princess Martha); she was wearing a cute pencil skirt, the white blouse, and a leather jacket over the shoulders. All the judges agreed that it wasn't the MOST innovative but it looked amazing on her body type and it was great for the challenge.

Todos los retos tenían que ver con la famosa "camisa blanca" y su versatilidad. El primer reto era crear un look que funcionara del día a la noche, de la oficina a una cita romántica. La ganadora fue indudablemente Maria y su modelo Martha (del blog Princess Martha); ella estaba usando una falda estilo lápiz, la camisa blanca, y una chaqueta de cuero sintético en los hombros. Todos los jueces estuvimos de acuerdo que no era el look más innovador, pero que le quedaba espectacular a la moda y cumplía los requisitos del reto.

These three photos are from the second challenge…which was so much fun. Each blogger got a random item from Target and they needed to create a look inspired by that item. Maria got "hot sauce", Annie got a B&W umbrella, and Ginger got some retro sunglasses. All three did a great job but there was not doubt that the winner was Ginger and her gorgeous model Angeles. I absolutely loved how she layered the white shirt underneath the gray two piece set and then added the jean jacket around the waist….I feel like wearing something like that soon on the blog!

Estos 3 looks corresponden al segundo reto…el cual fue divertidísimo. A cada blogger le dieron un ítem sorpresa: a Maria le tocó una salsa picante, a Annie le tocó un paraguas blanco y negro, y a Ginger unos lentes de sol retro. Las 3 hicieron un gran trabajo…pero la ganadora fue Ginger y su modelo Angeles Almuna . A mi personalmente me encantó como agrego la camisa blanca debajo de este set de dos piezas gris, y le puso la chaqueta de blue jean a la cintura…tengo muchísimas ganas de robarme este look- me pareció moderno, innovador, y 100% inspirado en sus lentes retro.
Here you can see the two winner looks (one from each challenge); but it was time to pick an overall winner…and, as you can see in Maria's face of excitement…she was the winner! CONGRATS LOVE!
